Recommended Reading for Special Needs Parents: "Mommy Mantras"

Today's book recommendation literally jumped out at me several months ago.  I was sorting through a pile of old papers when an old catalog clipping popped out of the stack, fluttered through the air, and stuck to the knee of my corduroy pants.  The title made me laugh out loud, as I'd been having "one of those days."

Mommy Mantras:
Affirmations and Insights to Keep You from Losing Your Mind

by Bethany E. Casarjian, Ph.D. and Diane H. Dillon, Ph.D.

Each chapter contains mantras, or sayings, that you can repeat to yourself during the various kinds of moments when we as mothers are tried and tested.  But the mantras themselves make up only a small part of this book.  Its pages are filled with encouragement, insight, and thought-provoking explanations.  Examples from real-life -- sometimes funny, sometimes poignant -- make this a book we moms can really relate to.  It's rare to find a book like this that's both enlightening and entertaining.

And don't be fooled by the word "Mommy" in the title.  This book is a treasure trove of valuable insights for both mothers AND fathers -- of children of all ages, from infant to teen and beyond.
